Inktober 27 – Value Study

I’ve been redesigning the Sparrow’s costume. So in the absence of any further requests for Sparrow characters, I’m going to spend the rest of Inktober developing the new concept!

This is a value study for one of the ideas. If you’re not familiar with art terms, you might wonder “how is this a value study?” Well, in art, value refers to the lightness or darkness of the color. When designing, sometimes it’s useful to try a value study. Basically that means do a grayscale version to see how the contrast looks. Varying degrees of light and dark make a picture more interesting, and gray shades make the contrast easier to see.

In this picture, I want to lighten the chest piece and maybe remove or darken the gloves but I kind of like the overall visual.
